Project

Inconel 718-Silicon Carbide Composite coatings for BHEL Nozzle component

Assigning Organization

Ceramic Division, BHEL, Bangalore

Project Background

The team at BHEL’s Ceramic Division visited the surface engineering laboratory. They were satisfied with the Thermal Spray facilities, and briefed the team at the research domain on the various erosion problems in their current coal burner nozzles.

Technical Challenges

Severe Erosive wear of inner surfaces of coal burner nozzle leading to higher maintaining cost and frequent power shut down .

Technical Solution

High quality Inconel 718-Silicon Carbide Composite coatings were developed using optimized thermal spray parameters by HVOF process on BHEL Nozzle component.

Results

Based on the positive results of the tests conducted at ceramic division, BHEL, Bangalore placed orders for coating their nozzle component.

Project Lead

Dr. C.S.Ramesh, Professor, Mechanical Engineering
