Investigation on Lithium ion cells

PESU students developed procedures for the DPA / DCA analysis of Lithium ion cells. Fresh and cycled cells were analysed to establish degradation modes and mechanisms of failure. The cells were analysed for presence of impurities, additive and dopants in active materials and electrolytes. This helped in quality control as well as indigenous development of materials.

Space based Automatic Identification System

PESU students developed Satellite-based AIS which overcomes the terrestrial VHF coverage limitation with the potential to provide AIS detection service coverage on any given area on the Earth.

Contactless Underwater Battery Charger

PESU students designed, simulated and developed a device and system for contactless underwater power transmission. The contactless power transmission technique will be used to charge lithium ion battery used to power underwater ROV to extend its run time for scientific studies and other applications.

Pay-in / Pay -out system for AUV

PESU students developed a pay-in and pay-out system for the fibre optic data cable for AUV. The system for the fiber optics cable acquires video image data from an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). It manages a fiber optic cable and link for video and telemetry data (Tether) for data acquisition. Tether allows the AUV to make excursions at depth for a desired distance from the mother ship.

Investigation of optimum placement algorithm for hull monitoring sensor system

PESU students developed technique to identify the areas of high stress concentration on the ship hull under static and dynamic loading conditions. Further, the optimum number and location of strain gages is identified. The strain gages continuously monitor the physical state of the hull and provide information about any upcoming casualties, by monitoring cracks. The data is used for preventive maintenance, repair or replacing to enhance the life of the ship and reduce or eliminate catastrophic failures.
